As we start the new year, most of us are thinking about resolutions whether we want to or not! Our society reliably floods us on January 1st with messages about starting fresh, making changes, and revamping our lives, closets, and especially our bodies. A major culprit behind these body-focused messages is Diet Culture, a system that values weight, shape, and size over health and well-being. Diet Culture leads to negative impacts on our relationships with food and our bodies, but it’s so ingrained in our society that it can be hard to pinpoint and even harder to challenge. This presentation will help participants identify Diet Culture and introduce alternative beliefs and practices.
The target audience for this continuing education program is mental health providers and clinicians working with individuals with mental health diagnoses. Materials are appropriate for learners with an introductory level of understanding about mental health concerns.
