This 6-week support group occurs every Tuesday for 6 weeks from November 28 – January 2.

The holiday season can be a challenging time for individuals who are struggling with their mental health, including eating disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, and family dynamics. To provide a supportive and understanding space, Eating Recovery Center and Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center have partnered with Nōn Wels, a Say It Brave Member and founder of The Feely Human Collective, to host a series of virtual support groups. This series aims to offer a sense of community, validation, and strategies for individuals navigating the unique stressors of the holiday season.
6-Week Overview
November 28
Session 1: Welcome and Setting the Tone
- Introduction to the series and its hosts: Eating Recovery Center, Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center, and Nōn Wels.
- Overview of the goals and expectations of the support group series. Ground rules for maintaining a safe and respectful space.
- Icebreaker activities to encourage participants to connect and introduce themselves.
- Open floor to discuss highs and lows faced by members this week.
December 5
Session 2: Sharing Experiences and Finding Common Ground
- Participants will have the opportunity to share their personal experiences and challenges during the holiday season.
- Nōn will facilitate guided discussions on common struggles and emotions.
- Emphasis on fostering a sense of empathy and validation within the group.
- To find common ground: active listening, empathy, assumptions, bias, decentering.
December 12
Session 3: Coping Strategies for Navigating Triggers
- Discussion on identifying and managing triggers related to food, family gatherings, social events, and more.
- Triggers or sensitivity around certain experiences varies from person to person. They are a natural response to your experiences.
- Boundaries, self-awareness (knowing ourselves and what triggers we have), having support of people and community to lean on when we are triggered, regulating emotions.
- Nōn will guide participants through mindfulness and coping techniques to navigate triggers effectively.
- Sharing of individual coping strategies and techniques: breathing exercises, focusing on here and now (“I am feeling _____ right now”), journaling.
December 19
Session 4: Building Resilience and Self-Care
- Exploring the importance of self-care and resilience during the holiday season.
- Nōn will lead activities focused on building self-compassion and nurturing emotional well-being.
December 26
Session 5: Communicating Boundaries and Seeking Support
- Open dialogue on setting healthy boundaries with family, friends, and social obligations.
- Nōn will facilitate discussions on communication and seeking support when needed.
- Participants will have the opportunity to share their personal experiences and challenges during the holiday season.
January 2
Session 6: Reflection, Gratitude, and Moving Forward
- Guided reflection on participants' experiences throughout the series.
- Discussion on finding moments of gratitude and positivity during the holiday season.
In the interest of confidentiality and creating a safe space for the group to share, this series will not be recorded.
The support group series will consist of a total of six weekly sessions, each lasting 60 minutes. Sessions will be conducted virtually through Zoom allowing participants to join from the comfort of their homes.
By offering a supportive virtual space, this series aims to empower individuals to navigate the holiday season with a renewed sense of community, self-awareness, and emotional well-being.
