Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center Opens New Center in Maryland to Increase Options for Those in Need of Mental Health Treatment

Pathlight’s Transdiagnostic Treatment Approach Includes Evidence-Based Modalities, State-of-the-Science Neuropsychiatric Interventions, and Specialty Tracks for Trauma and OCD

BALTIMORE, MD (December 3, 2021) – In response to the growing need for comprehensive, specialized mental health services in Maryland, Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center (Pathlight), a leading treatment provider for mood, anxiety and trauma-related conditions, announces the opening of a new center in Maryland, its first on the East Coast. Beginning December 6, Pathlight’s treatment center outside of Baltimore will accept adult patients to its Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs. A separate program for adolescents ages 12 and up will open in 2022. Pathlight’s specialized treatment is designed to fill the gap between acute psychiatric hospitalization and outpatient therapy to address worsening mental health outcomes in the state.

The opening of Pathlight’s center in Maryland comes at a critical time as the pandemic has continued to intensify the need for comprehensive mental health treatment. According to a 2020 study by the National Association for Mental Illness (NAMI), 15.8% of Maryland adults reported that they have a depressive disorder. More than 31% of adults were unable to get the counseling or therapy they needed and 45.5% of teens ages 12-17 who have depression did not receive any care in the last year.

“We know firsthand that Maryland has a great need for more mental healthcare options, especially higher levels of care that offer the intensive support so many people need right now,” says Howard Weeks, MD, MBA, Chief Medical Officer of Pathlight. “Our treatment at Pathlight is unique in that it’s a transdiagnostic care approach, individualized to each patient and rooted in evidence-based modalities. With seven days of programming and a strong focus on caregiver involvement, our patients and their closest supporters have ample time to learn and practice tools and strategies that will serve as their foundation for lasting wellness and prevent future mental health crises.”

Additionally, Pathlight has newly developed specialty treatment tracks for trauma and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) to individualize aspects of treatment for patients who require more specialized care.

“Coinciding with the opening of our first Pathlight treatment center in Maryland, we have enhanced capabilities to help the people who are struggling the most,” says Harry Brandt, MD, Regional Medical Director at Pathlight. “In addition to the evidence-based therapy and skill development we do with our patients, being able to offer specialty programming for trauma and OCD allows us to treat each patient individually and as a whole person. It also means we can treat the many patients in our region who have had difficulty finding the level of support necessary to make a lasting impact.”

Pathlight is a well-established program with more than 15 years of treatment excellence, with treatment center locations in six states across the country and virtual telebehavioral health options for nationwide access. Pathlight offers comprehensive treatment for anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder; mood disorders such as major depressive disorder; and trauma-related conditions including post-traumatic stress disorder.

The PHP level of care offers comprehensive services seven hours per day during the week and six hours per day on weekends. The IOP level of care includes three hours of programming per day, three days a week.

Pathlight Maryland is located at 101 Schilling Road, Hunt Valley, Maryland, 21030.
