This presentation will focus on defining risk factors, causes, and treatment interventions for depression in children and adolescents. We will be examining the ways in which treatment of adolescents overlaps and differs from treatment of adults with depression and discussing family and individual interventions to support adolescents. Lastly, we will be covering ways to address severe symptoms of depression with adolescents and sharing resources for where to seek help and support.
The target audience for this continuing education program is mental health providers and clinicians working with individuals with mental health diagnoses. Materials are appropriate for learners with an introductory level of understanding about mental health concerns.
Educational Objectives
Following this presentation, participants will be able to -
- Identify factors that contribute to depression in children and adolescents
- Explain process for determination of appropriate levels of care
- Discuss interventions for working with children, adolescents, and their families in higher levels of care.
