Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the umbrella term for a specific form of psychotherapy that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of emotional and behavioral difficulties. Because of its strong empirical foundation, CBT is an evolving treatment model that has grown and improved with time and is currently considered a first line treatment option for many disorders. This presentation will focus on the practical application of CBT in various formats and will include a.) an overview of the theoretical understanding of CBT; b.) a review of the literature and established CBT models; c.) discussion of the core cognitive behavioral processes; and d.) guidance on how to incorporate key CBT interventions into your current clinical work. Differences between disorder specific CBT and transdiagnostic CBT will be discussed. Selected CBT strategies and case illustrations will be presented as well.
