Specialized Education for College and University Athletic Departments

ERC Pathlight partners with athletic conferences around the country, providing customized education and training.

For example, our College Athlete Series reviews the development, assessment, identification, and impact of eating disorders in the collegiate sport environment. The curriculum is intended to provide athletic department staff with skills and tools to support student athletes that may be at risk of an eating disorder, facilitate help seeking for student athletes that are challenged with disordered eating, maladaptive exercise, or a diagnosable eating disorder, and encourage continued recovery in student athletes that are returning to sport after eating disorder treatment. Attendees who complete all four trainings will earn the designation of Eating Disorders Informed Professional.

  1. Recognizing Eating Disorder Risk in College Athletes presented by Ralph E. Carson, CEDRD, PhD
  2. Eating Disorders 101 presented by Amy Gooding, PsyD
  3. Disordered Eating, Eating Disorders and Athletic Performance presented by Adee Levinstein, MS, RD, LD, CEDS-S
  4. Return to Play: Clearing Athletes for Participation in Sport presented by Anne O’Melia, MA, MD, FAAP

Eating Disorder Informed Professional (EDIP) Designation
The EDIP designation is recognition that a professional has completed 6 hours of training to understand the basics of how eating disorders can develop, how they are identified and the medical consequences of eating disorders. An EDIP is informed about how language and culture can trigger disordered eating and eating disorder behaviors in individuals who may be predisposed to these diseases. They have received the education necessary to compassionately support an individual who is struggling, while also connecting them to resources and treatment for recovery.
